Taven Rich and Abe Michel both won sectional championships last weekend at Davenport Central.

Abe Michel wrestled up a weight  class at 182. He beat a Davenport Assumption wrestler for the championship, capturing his 100th career win.

Rich received a bye in his first match, pinned Cole Miller of Central DeWitt, then won a major decision against an Anamosa wrestler for the championship.

Liam Aunan placed second on a wrestle back, which advances three wrestlers to districts championships in DeWitt next week. If they succeed, they earn the right to advance to the state wrestling meet in Des Moines Feb. 14-16.

Aunan, who also wrestled up a class at 195, was 3-1 for the day, winning his first match by a pin. He lost his second match, then won his third match by fall. He won by decision for second place7-2 over a DeWitt wrestler.
