MILES — The Easton Valley girls basketball team picked up an early win in the new year by defeating Anamosa 43-36 Saturday, Jan. 2.

The River Hawks’ shooting woes continued as the girls made only 13 of 50 field goal attempts for 26%, 1 of 10 on three-point baskets for 10%, and 16 of 37 from the free throw line for 43.2%.

On the positive side, the River Hawks drove the ball to the basket and got fouled going to the line 37 times.

Sydney McNeil was the only River Hawk in double figures, pouring in 23 points. McNeil went to the free throw line 15 times and converted 10 of her 15 attempts. McNeil made 7 of 8 free throws in the second half.

Liviah Johnson recorded a career-high 16 rebounds. Maddi Klemme also had a career-high in rebounds with 14.

Coach Chad Gruver said he still has to “figure out the subs rotation with Kaitlyn Kuhl out for an extended time with an ankle injury. I am looking to try to get sophomore Charly Holdgrafer some minutes on the court.”

This week the River Hawks host the Lisbon Lions on Thursday Jan. 7 for their only game of the week.
