Abbi Strathman tries to make room

Abbi Strathman tries to make room to get a shot up as she is defended by Central DeWitt’s Kathryn Grau in a game at DeWitt.

Central DeWitt 52

Maquoketa 26

The Maquoketa Cardinals girls basketball team had a tough week after getting steamrolled at DeWitt 52-26 Tuesday, Jan. 14. Then, Mother Nature won Friday and Saturday with snow and ice postponing games against Solon and Clinton.

When teams get beat, they want to get back on the court as soon as possible to get that sour taste out of their mouth. However, the Maquoketa girls had to wait at least seven days to resume their winning ways. The Cardinals had three games this week; they hosted Mount Vernon Tuesday, travel to Benton Community Thursday, and end the week on the road at Beckman Catholic on Friday.

The Maquoketa Athletic Booster Club and Maquoketa Education Association invite the public to the cake auction on Tuesday, Feb. 4, when the Cardinals host Central DeWitt.
