The Easton Valley River Hawks played an unusual game Friday night in Preston, defeating Central Elkader 86-0. The River Hawks ran only 21 offensive plays all night; in a typical game, teams run an average of 50 to 60 plays. The River Hawks recorded nine touchdowns on those 21 plays.
Porter Fuegen had two interceptions, returning one 12 yards for a touchdown. Cade Jargo returned two punts for touchdowns, adding to the team’s 12 TDs.
Quarterback Nate Trenkamp attempted only one pass; he usually throws the football 40 times in a game.
The River Hawks had long touchdown plays — the longest was 52 yards. They had touchdowns plays of 48, 48, 43, 26, 26 and 21 yards.
Coach Tony Johnson said the Hawks scored early and often, which put the outcome in no doubt early on.
The River Hawks continue district play Friday night on the road against the Midland Eagles.
