Jarrett Franzen captured the checkered flag to win the IMCA Sport Mods race during the 15-lap event at the Maquoketa Speedway July 18.

With a heat index close to 100 degrees, 73 cars braved the heat and humidity to put on a show at the Maquoketa Speedway July 18.

Some 13 IMCA Modifieds made the call for their 20-lap main event. Derek Wilson and Kory Meyer set the front row. Meyer jumped out to the early lead but would be slowed by a caution right off the start. Meyer held the lead on the restart but would shortly give it up to Jeff Larson. Larson stretched his lead out until a couple cautions slowed him down. A lap-16 caution eliminated a better part of half the field. With only five cars left to finish, Larson maintained the top spot and took his third feature win in a row at the Maquoketa Speedway. Second went to Steve Johnson, followed by Meyer, Cole Denner, and Nick Hillyer rounding out the top 5. Heat race winners were Larson and Johnson.

RJ Lank and Mitch Current led the Rev Chassis/Gade Motors IMCA Stock Cars to the green flag. Jacob Ellithorpe got up top and led the first circuit around the track. After a lap-6 caution, Joe Zrostlik took over the top spot from Ellithorpe. Zrostlik went on to lead the remainder of the race and take the win. David Brandies worked his way to second, followed by Ellithorpe, Chris Hinrichs, and Chase Zaruba rounding out the top 5. Heat race winners were Current and Brandies.

Some 23 IMCA Sport Mods made their way on to the track for their main event. Rance Powell and Kyle Eller set the front row. Eller used the outside spot to lead the first couple laps before Jarret Franzen got around him to take the lead. Tyler Soppe would take over the second spot and challenge for the lead but Franzen held him off for the top spot. Franzen maintained the lead for the remainder of the 15-lap feature. Dylan VanWyk came home in second followed by Sean Wyatt, Bob Silaggi, and Jacob Arp. Heat race winners were Eller, Scott Williams, Rance Powell, and Franzen.

Joshua Muse and Cristian Grady set the front row for the Jackson County Fairboard Sport Compact Feature. Brett Marshall got around a bunch of cars and led lap one. With no cautions to slow him down, Marshall led flag to flag to take the win. Andy Wagener worked his way from deep in the field to take second. Cristian Grady, Ashley Reuman, and Josh Starr rounded out the top 5. Josh Muse and Cody Montgomery were the heat race winners.

Steve Cox and Randy Lamar set the front row of the Karl’s Auto Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks. Lamar used the outside to take the lead on lap one, followed closely by Kaden Reynolds. Reynolds show Lamar the nose a few times but was unable to take the lead away. Lamar went on to lead all 15 laps and take the win. Reynolds held on for second, followed by Brandon White in third, Brian Wiseman in fourth, Steve Cox in fifth. Lamar was also the heat race winner.
