The Easton Valley River Hawks football team continued its winning ways Thursday night in Preston to maintain its 5-0 record. EV played the Springville Orioles in District 3 action. The two teams agreed to move the game up to Thursday to avoid the rainy Friday night forecast.

The River Hawks got off to a slow start Thursday mostly due to turnovers as Mr. Reliable Nate Trenkamp threw his first interception of the year on his second pass attempt of the game. The Springville Orioles Spencer Demean scored on his first rushing play of the game, going 65 yards to take the early lead.

Trenkamp threw a second interception in the firsthalf to allow the Orioles to take a 30-24 lead at half.

It was all River Hawks in the second half as they outscored the Orioles 44-0 to get a come-from-behind win.

The River Hawks’ defense held the Orioles to just 16 yards on the ground and 0 passing yards through the air. The River Hawks also intercepted two passes in the second half.

Trenkamp rushed for three touchdowns and threw four TD passes to three different receivers. Logan House caught two TD passes; Porter Fuegen and Braydin Farrell caught one apiece.

“There was no big halftime speech or major adjustment,” Coach Tony Johnson said. “It was the first time the team had to fight through adversity this year and they responded well.”

Trenkamp said he just “led the receivers just a little too far on the interceptions. The lineman did just an excellent job blocking and making big plays when we needed them most.”

“Springville took Cade Jargo out of the game,” Trenkamp said, “but we have other weapons to go to like Logan House and others.”

The Easton Valley River Hawks’ next game is Friday Oct. 4 at Central City.
