The Easton Valley River Hawks and the Midland Eagles opened Friday night’s game like they were at a track meet.
The River Hawks won the coin toss and Junior Kolton Murphy returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown just nine seconds into the game. The Eagles than ran the River Hawks’ kickoff back to take the early lead 8-6 in the first 22 seconds of the game.
That is the last time the Eagles scored. The River Hawks won 58-8 to go 4-0 on the season.
On the first play from scrimmage, senior Cade Jargo caught a short pass from fellow senior Nate Trenkamp; it turned it into a 47-yard touchdown pass to give the River Hawks the lead for good with just over one minute gone in the first quarter.
Murphy ran for 103 yards on just eight attempts reaching pay dirt four times. Murphy scored five touchdowns on the night.
Trenkamp ran for 52 yards, including a 20-
yard touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Jargo caught another long touchdown pass in the first quarter to make the score 22-8. Murphy capped first-quarter scoring with a one-yard run. He had touchdown runs of 1, 2, 40, and 46 yards.
