The Maquoketa boys Cardinals continued their winning ways Jan. 10, holding off the Camanche Storm 80-75 at Camanche.
Then on Friday, Maquoketa came from 17 down at halftime to shock Monticello, outscoring them 50-28 in the second half then winning 83-78.
Maquoketa’s third win last week came in Clinton as Maquoketa outlasted the River Kings 77-74 Saturday, Jan. 14.
All five starters scored in double figures for Maquoketa in Camanche. Leading the way was Tye Hardin with 26, Ty Hinz 16, Carter Meyer 15, Kasey Coakley 13, and Lucas Ihrig with 10. No other Cardinals scored.
The smaller Cardinals were out-rebounded 36-24. Maquoketa had a difficult time keeping Camanche off the offensive glass; the Storm finished with 13 offensive rebounds. Camanche starts three tall players — Zane Witt 6’8”, Damarion Honaker 6’7”, and Tyson Seeser 6’5”. That gave the Cardinals a disadvantage.
In the three games last week, Maquoketa averaged 80 points a game.
Maquoketa has three games scheduled this week — two at home and one away. Anamosa came to Maquoketa on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Maquoketa will travel down Highway 61 to tangle with the Central DeWitt Sabers Thursday, Jan. 19, then end the week at home against Cascade, who beat the Cardinals at Cascade earlier in the season.
