The Maquoketa Cardinals boys basketball team picked up a victory last week, winning at Benton Community 48-41 Thursday, Feb. 6.

The Cardinals received double-figure scoring from both Brady Digmann and Caiden Atienza. They had 12 points apiece to pace the Cardinals in scoring.

The stats of the game were the Cardinals making 16 baskets and recording 13 assists and 12 steals. If they can keep up that pace they may surprise some teams in post-season.

The Cards have three games left in the season starting Tuesday, Feb. 11, with a home game against Solon. They then play Friday, Feb. 14, for a home date with Williamsburg followed by a trip to Anamosa Tuesday, Feb. 18, to conclude the regular season.

Easton Valley 49

Prince of Peace 43

The Easton Valley River Hawks boys basketball team keeps putting up wins, adding three more games to the “W” column last week despite suffering some injuries.

On Feb. 4, the River Hawks traveled to Clinton and defeated Prince of Peace 49-43 in the team’s closest varsity contest so far.

Two days later, the River Hawks defeated Rivermont Collegiate at home 76-28, then traveled to Midland Friday and beat the Eagles 73-31.

The River Hawks’ top two scorers did not play much this week. Kaleb Cornilsen sat out all three games with injuries while Jessen Weber hurt his ankle in the first half of the Prince of Peace game Tuesday. The River Hawks persevered thanks to a deep scoring bench.

The River Hawks have three more games this week to end the regular season. They hosted Morningstar Monday and Lisbon Tuesday before closing out the season at Bellevue Marquette Catholic Friday, Feb. 14.
