The effort included seven rebounds from Clayton Widel and four assists by Mitchell Roeder to lead the categories.

The win moved Maquoketa to 2-2 on the year, with two games — Mount Vernon Tuesday and Marion Friday — before the holiday break.

Easton Valley’s 20-point victory was perhaps the team’s most impressive win to date after holding the state’s third-leading scorer averaging 29 points per game, Nick Reid, to 17 points.

In fact, Reid, who is 6-foot-7-inches tall, plays point guard and was guarded primarily by Easton Valley senior Cade Jargo, who stands 5-foot-6, according to the team’s roster.

“Reid is really good at drawing fouls and normally scores about a third of his points from the free throw (line), so the fact that all of our guys made it hard on him to score without fouling him was a great accomplishment,” said Easton Valley head coach Dan Beck.

The River Hawks had little time to rest, however. Tuesday they traveled to Alburnett to take on the Iowa Class 1A state runner up last year.

Results from that game will be in the Dec. 25 edition of the Sentinel-Press.
