As co-chairman of the recent 2018 Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, I have many people to thank, starting with the hundreds of volunteers who rang the bells at Fareway and Wal-Mart no matter how bad the weather was. Thanks to the management at Fareway and Wal-Mart for allowing us to work in their entryways for four weeks.

Thanks for the guidance of the Maquoketa Ministerial Board. Thanks to those who helped move the shed to and from Wal-Mart. Thanks to all the church and service club coordinators for their hard work. A special thank you to my sidekick, David Manning. I apologize if I missed anyone.

And finally, thanks to the thousands of people who gave generously when they heard the bells ring. Together we were able to collect over $19,376, of which 90 percent will come back to our community to assist those in need ($17,439). Oh, yes, we again had a secret donation of a large, gold coin!
