The Board of the Friends of the Library would like to express our appreciation to the Maquoketa Sentinel-Press for publishing two pages per month (the first and third Wednesdays) for our “Year of the Woman” program celebrating 100 years of votes for women. In this unusual year of COVID-19 and cancellations, we have watched one after another of our planned “YOW” activities disappear from our calendars after a rousing beginning to the celebration with the showing of the movie “Iron-Jawed Angels” at the Voy Theatre in January. We look forward to the time we can resume our “YOW” activities.
The “Year of the Woman” pages in the newspaper have provided readers with stories of courageous leaders of the Suffrage Movement and other remarkable women who have left their marks on the history of our country. In addition, there are suggestions of books to read and other information to keep our program on the Suffrage Movement alive. And, don’t forget to look for “Year of the Woman” tidbits on the Opinions and Columns page ever week.
A big thank you to the staff of the Maquoketa Sentinel-Press for supporting the “Year of the Woman!”
