Karen L. Potter, 82, of Maquoketa, passed away on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. Per her wishes no public services will be conducted. Local arrangements at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue.
Karen was born Aug. 3, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the head bartender and cashier at Bluff Lake for 34 years before retiring. Karen enjoyed in her earlier years, gardening, crocheting, playing cards, and attending her children and grandchildrens sporting events.
Survivors include her children, Cindy (Terry) Koontz, Michael Griffin, Angel Schiffer, Matthew Potter, and Joseph P. Potter III; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; 1 great-niece; 2 great-nephews; 1 great-great nephew; many good friends, especially Cheryl.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary (Hladky) Johnson; a sister, Arlene (Clarence “Cuz”) Irwin, Jr.; a son in-law, Jim Schiffer; and a nephew, Gary Shearer.
