With high hay prices and narrowing margins in the beef cow industry, winter feeding management is important. Controlling feed cost while meeting all the cow’s nutrient needs requires knowledge of the feed supply and the animal’s needs.
Five workshops to help producers understand those needs will be held in northeast Iowa in February. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach beef specialist Denise Schwab will discuss comparing feed costs, tips to reduce feed waste, and balancing cow rations in late gestation and early lactation.
Meeting locations and times are:
Feb. 18, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Jackson County Extension, Maquoketa, 563-652-4923
Feb. 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Delaware County Extension, Manchester, 563-927-4201
Please preregister by Feb. 8 by calling the hosting county Extension office.
