A motorist was airlifted to the hospital and a dog died in a head-on collision Friday.

The two-vehicle accident occurred at 8:26 a.m. Nov. 9 near the intersection of 308th Street and Highway 52 north of Bellevue.

The names of the people involved in the accident have not been released pending notification of family by the Iowa State Patrol.

A 59-year-old from Sterling, Illinois, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado south on Highway 52. That vehicle collided head-on with a 1998 Chevrolet C15 driven by a 17-year-old from Dubuque, according to the accident report.

The 59-year-old was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A Bellevue ambulance drove the 17-year-old to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. 

Bellevue Fire and EMS and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with at the scene.
