Two people died in separate car accidents over the weekend.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred at 10:39 p.m. Sunday on 210th Avenue, about one-quarter mile north of Highway 136.

Zachary Sagers, 27, was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra south on 210th Avenue when his vehicle left the road, rolled over and struck a guardrail. The vehicle rolled onto its top and became submerged in water.

Sagers was trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the accident report.

Officials are still investigating the accident.

The second accident occurred at 12:23 p.m. Sunday on Highway 52 about four miles south of Bellevue.

Alex R. Behr, 20, of Sabula, and Andy L. Ahrens, 20, of Maquoketa, were riding in a Jeep Cherokee on Highway 52. Ahrens was driving the vehicle, which ran off the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree, according to the accident report.

Behr, who was riding in the front seat, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the accident report.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque. The Bellevue Fire Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Police Department, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and county Emergency Management and medical examiner assisted at the scene.
