The city of Maquoketa has declared a snow emergency to aid snow removal efforts this week.

The snow emergency began at 6 p.m. Monday and continues through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

All cars parked along city snow routes must be relocated or face the possibility of being towed. All property owners in the central business district are reminded to shovel their sidewalks by noon the next day after the snowfall ceases, or the city will shovel the sidewalk and all associated costs and fines will be assessed to the property owner.

The city also requests the removal of parked cars from unplowed streets to assist the public works crews to plow the streets.
