Weekly Happenings

Oct. 28 – Nov. 3

It was a quiet day for our residents on Sunday with a prayer service and group exercises starting our day. Family and friends stopped by throughout the day. Our Sacred Heart friends distributed Holy Communion to our Catholic residents. Evening activities were led by Leigh in the front lounge.

Monday morning after breakfast, group exercises and Current Events were our activities. After a nice lunch, the residents met for Reading Group in the front lounge. Bingo was played in the later afternoon with Brian B. calling the numbers and assistance from Earl K., Deloris N., Mike L., and other family members. Helen M. won blackout today. Sammy came in for evening activities with the residents in the front lounge.

Tuesday the ladies from Faith Group stopped by for Bible study after group exercises were done. Doris C. stopped by for her weekly visit. Resident Council met in the afternoon to review the month and discuss business. The residents met in the front lounge to fill treat bags for the trick-or-treaters. Armchair Travel took a trip to Death Valley to keep in the spirit of Halloween. Later, Leigh came in for evening activities.

Group exercises were done Wednesday after breakfast, then the residents all gathered in the dining room to welcome the Sunshine trick-or-treaters. Their costumes were adorable! We all enjoyed seeing them. October Lunch Bunch was celebrated in the dining room with family and friends. Penny Pitch was played in the afternoon followed by our Halloween Party. Delicious treats and cider were served and the residents played a game of “WITCH” in honor of Halloween. Everyone was enjoying the trick-or-treaters that stopped by in the evening hours during mealtime and later. Leigh came in for evening activities with a few of the residents in the front lounge.

Weekly Worship was held after group exercises on Thursday morning by Reverend Caroline from the Episcopal Church. Lunch was served soon after, then the residents met in the lounge to help with the popcorn for Popcorn Thursday. Nancy W. came in to do an art project with the residents later in the afternoon, then she shared her talent by playing the piano for us before supper. Shawna and Abby were in to do evening activities with the residents in the front lounge. Several of the ladies received their one-on-one manicures early.

The one-on-one manicures continued Friday morning after group exercises were done. After lunch, the Cooking Club met and made braunschweiger dip which they enjoyed during happy hour while Razor Ray Theisen entertained them. We love to see him and his lovely wife Doris. It was a lovely way to end our Friday. Sammy came in to do activities with the residents in the evening.

Bingo was played Saturday with Brian B. calling the numbers and Connie W. helping out. There was a tie for blackout between Janice L. and Sue S. Shawna came in for evening activities and the residents watched DVDs of Lawrence Welk since the cable was out throughout the town.

On to another fun week. Stop by and see us soon.

CRESTRIDGE

It has been another wonderful week here at Crestridge, kicking off the week with visits from friends and family, along with Holy Communion.

Monday kicked our day off with exercise. Musical entertainment by My Singing Guitar filled the halls at 2 p.m.

Tuesday exercise again began the day; Book Club followed at 10:30 a.m. If you are ever looking into a book or not sure what you want to read, stop in at the Maquoketa Public Library. It is easy to get a library card and the ladies are wonderful and willing to help.

Bingo was held in the main dining room at 2 p.m. and the local Girl Scouts stopped in at 5 p.m. to parade in their costumes. Everyone loved seeing them.

Wednesday was Halloween. Did you know that the “bon” in bonfire is a reference to bones? During Samhain, priests lit large fires to represent the sun returning after the hard winter. They would throw the bones of cattle into the flames, creating a “bone fire.” Interesting fact! It was also shopping day. The residents made their lists out and sent Amanda on her way to shop.

Exercise began the day and the residents prepared for the Halloween party, which was held at 2 p.m.

Thursday we welcomed in November with a chill! Chapel services began the day and manicures with Nelly followed. Snack bingo was held in the main dining room at 2 p.m.

Friday exercise again began the day with Book Club following at 2 p.m. Music by Marvin filled the afternoon with joy. Marvin loves to sing for his friends and entertain everyone!

Saturday we ended the week with some visits from friends along with Lawrence Welk and “The Wheel of Fortune.” Off to next week’s adventures.
