Delmar’s Ryan Hute, 34, was one of two people killed in a head-on crash Dec. 3 in Illinois.
Hute was driving a tractor trailer on Interstate 74 between Bloomington and Downs, Illinois when he collided with a Normal Community West High School bus. A passenger in that bus, Charlie Crabtree, 72, was also killed. Crabtree was a school volunteer.
Eight high school-aged girls on the bus, along with their coach and two other adults, escaped the crash but were injured. The girls were all in stable condition and released from the hospital Wednesday night.
Their coach, along with the driver of the bus and another adult passenger, suffered serious injuries.
Officials said the truck driven by Hute was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 74 when the collision occurred. As of Thursday afternoon, officials did not know why Hute was driving the wrong way.
