Maquoketa and Easton Valley school districts are offering free breakfasts and lunches to youths in their districts.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service extended a suite of nationwide waivers for the Summer Food Service Program until the end of 2020 or until available funding runs out. It’s part of efforts to help people amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

In Maquoketa, all children age 18 and younger will be eligible for free meals (one breakfast and one lunch daily). A la carte options will still be available for purchase at the middle school and high school.

Maquoketa will serve in-person learners at each school location. Grab-and-go meals for remoted learners and other eligible children will be held Mondays from 9-10:30 a.m. at the high school. Call the school building by Friday at noon to pre-order meals. Meal pickup bags will include breakfast and lunch meals for Monday-Friday.

All K-12 in-person learners will have the opportunity to pick up meals on Thursday afternoon to take home for Friday. Pick-up will be available at the front entrance of each school building on Thursday’s from 3-4 p.m.

In Easton Valley, the district is offering free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students in the district. This includes students who are physically in the building or learning remotely.

This does not include any a la carte items, extra milks, extra main entrees or sides, etc.  It also does not include adult meals or waive any existing negative balances. These still need to be taken care of when the account goes into a negative status.
