All-terrain vehicle drivers entering Maquoketa can ride in city limits from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Maquoketa City Council changed the time to align it with Jackson County’s ATV guidelines and those of other nearby counties.

In 2019, the council approved regulations allowing ATVs on city streets beginning one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Some people thought that time fluctuated too much based on the time of year, such as sunsets at 5 p.m. in the winter and 9 p.m. in summer.

Per state law, ATVs cannot be driven on state highways. In Maquoketa, that means Platt Street (Highway 64) and Highways 61 and 62.
