The Maquoketa High School boys basketball team climbed to new heights this basketball season and carried the community along for the ride.
Coming off a 9-13 season last year, team members said they hoped to improve their record.
The crew won their first 14 games of the season before being handed a loss. Their confidence grew, and so did the level of community involvement, culminating in 1,600-plus fans packing the gym for multiple home games.
A commemorative section honoring the 2018-19 team, coaching staff, fans and other supporters will be published in your Saturday, March 16, Sentinel-Press.
Inside you can see numerous photos from the season and read columns by MSP sports editor Harv Hansen and retired sportswriter Jack Marlowe. You will read the game recaps and see the box scores as the season progressed, and learn more about the nine seniors in their senior profiles.
Numerous families, parents, businesses and civic groups helped to make this section possible, providing information and buying ads to congratulate the team on its success. Be sure to check them out as you peruse the 28-page commemorative issue.
The section will be a keepsake not only for the team but for the town, a reminder that three months of athletic competition can help unite a community.
