The building and service are the same but the owners are different. Ryan and Ashley Prull bought the former Mayberry Home Appliance Center at 117 S. Second St., Maquoketa. The couple changed the name to Appliance Solutions, incorporating their appliance service business into the 40-year-old business. The Prulls previously handled service needs for Mayberrys.

Customers often let him into their home to fix the refrigerator, stove, freezer or dishwasher. They often talk to her about billing or to schedule an appointment.

Now, Ryan and Ashley Prull have a storefront and purchased a business with a 40-year history of sales and service in Maquoketa and the surrounding area.

The Prulls bought the former Mayberry Home Appliance Center at 117 S. Second St., in Maquoketa. The business reopened Sept. 1 under the name Appliance Solutions, the name of the Prulls’ already-established appliance repair business.

Jim and Sue Mayberry opened the appliance and repair business in August 1980 and celebrated its 40th anniversary amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have been thinking about making a transition the last couple of years,” Sue said. “It was important to us that we would be able to find a couple that our customers could depend on.

“We are thrilled to have found a couple that will provide the same quality service to our customers,” Sue continued. “They have been providing honest and dependable appliance repair to our customers for the last three years.”

The Prulls both hail from the Monticello area and have four children.

Ryan earned his degree in industrial maintenance in 1997. He worked in the plumbing and heating and air conditioning sector for a couple years and has worked on appliances for the last 21 years, most recently under his own business, Appliance Solutions. Ashley had been booking the appointments, bills, etc., from an office at the couple’s home.

In 2016, the Mayberrys partnered with the Prulls, asking Ryan to complete the service work for their customers.

“It was a pleasure working with them,” the Prulls said.

Customers in the market for new appliances will find what they need in the Appliance Solutions showroom at 117 S. Second St., the same building the Mayberrys used. The store sells Amana, KitchenAid, Maytag and Whirlpool appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, ovens and ranges, dishwashers, microwaves, washers and dryers.

Offerings also include services after the sale and warranty issues, said Ryan, who also handles installation needs. The service area includes Maquoketa, Bellevue, and west toward Monticello.

Combining sales and service simply makes sense, Ashley said.

“Sometimes service isn’t economical and we’d have to send them to this appliance store or that one,” Ashley said. “This was the greatest way to take care of all (customers’) appliance needs.”

Appliance Solutions is the sole appliance store in Jackson County.

“We really want to take care of our customers,” Ashely said. “It’s what sets us apart from the big box stores.”

The store is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and by appointment.
