Jordan Kortenkamp, of Maquoketa, was one of 97 graduating seniors from Iowa Connections Academy, a tuition-free online public school serving students in grades K-12 across Iowa.

The 97 graduates represent the largest class since the school’s opening in 2012.

Among the graduating class, 57% plan to attend either a two- or four-year college or university, 13% plan to enter the workforce and 12% plan to attend vocational or technical schools. Collectively, the class earned more than $80,000 in scholarships.

• Iowa State University held both its College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Convocation May 8 and commencement May 11 virtually. Local students receiving bachelor of science degrees are as follows: Delmar: Blair Bennis, agronomy; Miles: Eileen Clausen, animal science.

• Scott Community College hosted their 2020 commencement ceremony virtually on May 19, 2020.

Local graduates are: Delmar: Brittany Karr; Maquoketa: Kristy Baker and Chalette Gerischer; Miles: Alex Bolton and Keaton Rice-Melvin; Preston: Tony Anderson.

• Brooke Lapke, of LaMotte, was one of 13 University of Kansas students honored with commencement awards.

Lapke received the Caryl K. Smith Student Leader Award, which goes to a graduating fraternity or sorority member who has demonstrated commitment to the local chapter, the KU Greek community, the university, and the Lawrence Community.

The award was established in 1993 to honor Smith, a former dean of student life.

Lapke, a Maquoketa High School graduate, recently earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology.
